Well, one thing I can surely brag about is my alarm ringtone. A soothing piece by Yiruma,

“River Flows in You”, while many will complain that such a soothing piece makes them

sleep longer, I am encouraged to wake up. I don’t know how it works for me, but well as long as it helps, I have no complaints about it. Freshen up, brew some coffee, and look up at the sky as the tint of blue spreads like the ink over a dry parched paper. Nothing is more beautiful and scenic, isn’t it? But amidst these, my mind wanders into delusions of lost opportunities and the past. And I realize, if there’s one thing humans have excelled in, it is creating delusions. As Yuval Noah Harari puts it, no other species have even come any close to creating delusions and fables like humans and precisely this is what makes them successful.

Successful, hmm, indeed a term by humans again, wherein every other human tries to define it, and set its standard so that others can measure theirs. What baffles me in particular is how success driven have we become. Roll back a few years in time and you will realize that humans were simply believing in the stories they created. But one of my friends puts it, humans were never built to accept gaps. And surely the stories had gaps. And the more we tried to fill it up, the more we discovered. And this probably led to more dissatisfaction, more discontent. Look around, sorry look into the 6-inch or so rectangle that lights up and you probably are holding at this moment, and you will realize how fast things are (of course if you haven’t realized it). Not that the world is moving fast, but it is taking the entire generation with it. I don’t think in class 3 or 4 any of us were looking to make an impact or become famous. Or at least most were still drooling and happy chasing butterflies and clouds.

Yet this world is different. It is all about creating impact. Kids making reels to get to the

effing figures of 1M subs. Wow, when did that happen? Do they still know the meaning of

success? Can they handle success or is it going to bloat their egos? Do they even know what ego is? Fundamental doubts of an almost millennial, who still does not know what he is seeking. And yet I feel people are in a rush, and everyone wants to be famous. But the

question is, who takes the responsibility? Parents, teachers? Anyone? We all want a story,

don’t we? Narratives and accounts fathers would talk to their sons about, tales we would

throw as a convocation address someday probably, or maybe at least Ted Talk. Stories about us revolutionizing a part of the world, making a mark as they say. So, what is it that eludes us from achieving this little fairy tale of ours? Well, if you are expecting any motivation, sincere apologies for not living up to your expectations, as I never have had.

But these were just some random thoughts about whether we are ready to take responsibility for success and the power we gain. Let us sit back and think once probably, for life, may not be that short and we actually need not be in a rush to prove things, or maybe we actually need to who knows? But whatever it is, I sincerely believe that you should dream big but at the same time, not be in a rush. Just keep working to the best of your abilities and assess your personality and then look into what aligns with that. And understand what comes with dreaming big. With power comes responsibility and so understanding your responsibility may make you hold onto the power for a longer time.

Well, whatever. Too much of a thought for a mind that is still trying to wake up completely

and soak in the beauty from the balcony. The sun has come up and it is time for me to pack my bag and hit the gym. And yeah headphones. I want to cut off myself from the world for some time.

PS: Hope to see you again soon.
