The suns rays soaked the dark clouds booming the sky whilst the winds rustled the dry leaves that fell on the ground. The land appeared rust and barren - devoid of any recent showers. Although his feet ached as it rubbed against the earth, the little boy could care less. He wore tattered khaki knickers that loosely held onto his body. The child's brown skin glistened as he sprung down the road .His friend Ramu ran towards him and gave a grin , bare of two or three teeth. Theirs Eyes met and the two instantly knew what they were upto for the day .
They perched upon the tallest mango tree and made noises at the passengers that travelled the dusty road. They threw tiny raw mangoes at some and hid behind the dark green boughs of the tree. After a few hearty laughs and giggles , they got down and ran behind each other , playing catch.
Panting heavily , the two sat down cross legged . The boys were drenched with sweat and their flat bellies grumbled for food. "Ramu, what about lunch at my house today?" the boy in khaki squeaked. "okay , you stay here - I'll come in a few seconds , after taking mom's permission."
The boy left alone now ,stood staring at the scenery around him. And allowed silence to coat his being. He stared at a peacock that slowly started to flutter its beautiful Plumes. It slowly swayed , and began to stir into a kind of motion. The boy smiled radiantly. It was about to rain , for the first time - after three hot months. A wisp of fresh wind blew past the boys face and raised the dust on his shabby hair. Ramu came running in and nodded his head , signalling that he was given permission from his mother. The boy smiled, and then motioned Ramu to look at the stormy sky . The whole of earth seemed to patiently await the shower. A huge gust of wind swooshed the land , followed by the pitter patter of the rain droplets . Steam seeped out from the soil and the boys gasped in the smell of wet land.
The two kids sang their local songs in merry and clasped each others arms as they headed for home.
